Flower of a very rare baobab pollinated by a souimanga Madagascar – Ankarana – Nov 2016 Discovered fifty years ago, Adansonia perrieri is the rarest and strangest species of baobab. It hides in the heart of the forests of Northern Madagascar in small colonies. Less than 200 individuals have been identified, including about 100 by Wilfried Ramahafaly and myself. Given its wide but fragmented distribution, it is probable that its effectives are undervalued.
